Video automation is a new class of video solutions where video is incorporated to automate various monitoring functions as well as incorporating video into process control applications. By using video imagery as a sensor input, automated solutions for physical security, asset monitoring and control, and safety can be implemented.
In a typical monitoring application, a human operator has to constantly monitor a large array of video feeds for security threats or operational issue. As the number of cameras increases, information overload makes manual monitoring increasingly difficult, adding to other confounding factors like human fatigue and boredom. Video automation adds intelligence to the video system and automates the monitoring and event detection components, alerting the operator only when unusual behavior or other events of interest are detected.
